Ashby Lumber opened its first store in 1968. The store is still located at Ashby Avenue, one of the main commercial streets in Berkeley, and the origin for the company name.

The Berkeley location is home to a lumberyard, hardware store, milling facility, door & window showroom, and kitchen & bath kitchen & bathroom showroom.
